i just bought a 52 inch Samsung LCD TV (1080p). How high off the floor should I be mounting it? I’ll be sitting about 10-12 feet away from it?

It depends just exactly how you are mounting it and what you mount is capable of. If the mount can, I would suggest angling it downward about 10 degrees and then mounting the TV about 4 to 4. 5 ft high would be just about right.
You should look at the space where you will be placing the TV and sit at the place that you will be watching the TV and see what is the comfortable place that is comfortable for your neck and head.
Your most comfortable position when watching the TV is the best place to put the TV.
Not so high that you feel yourself looking up at the TV.
I say about 4 feet off the floor
