50 LCD HD TV

- getting a 50 inch 720p or 42 inch 1080p?
Well i have a 32 inch lcd 720p poloroid tv. I want to upgrade. My choices are a plasma 50 inch samsung 720p or 42 inch lcd poloroid 1080p. the difference in price is around $200. am i going to be happy with a 8 inch difference for 1080p or is it worth it to get the 50 inch that's only 720p? I mostly would use this tv for video gaming and i sit about 6.5 feet away. i could get as far back as 17 feet. I really would like the 50 inch. because paying 600$ just for a 10 inch difference doesn't seem worth it

Also, with Plasmas, since they are the number 1 rated "Burn In" television, they can cause images to burn directly to the Panel itself if they stay on the Panel for far too long, such as gaming or movies...But good thing with Samsung is, they actually have a "White Out" effect which actually prevents "Burn In" on the panels, so you have nothing to worry about, but still be cautious though, because it is an electronic. I myself have a Samsung and I haven't regretted buying it yet, I use it for video games occasionally, and oh my goodness it looks amazing, so bright, so vivid, so crisp...And the audio quality from the Tru Surround XT speakers, oh my goodness makes it sound like im right their. Is the samsung going to look good? When I went to the store i looked at the plasma's and they looked very dark. Is this just in the settings or are these the way plasmas are. A The plasma will look great at your home. They have more reflection from the screen so they look best in dark sales showrooms. It should not look dark when you see it at home. A In the past plasma was clearly better than LCD as the latter had long persistence times, poor viewing angle and very low contrast ratios. In recent years this has narrowed considerably to the point where plasma is still a bit better but LCD is better value for money. Whether or not your particular plasma will support 1080p depends on which model it is, if they just bought it then it's almost guaranteed that it will. A I am 22 and I have 50" Samsung too and I was just able to lift that thing and put in on the wall myself, so unless you are buff I do not recommend un-mounting anything by yourself. Is your TV really that close to the wall that you can not shove a HDMI cable in there? And if it is you probably need low profile plug, you know "L" shaped. Why don't you use the one that is on the side of the TV meanwhile, My TV has HDMI there. Overall wait for your dad or an adult (preferably with some technical knowledge :) to help you. And yes, your TV is most likely 1080p.

I have a smart television from samsung.. and I have the black wii and I'm trying to connect it to my tv. the red white and yellow cords aren't fitting in any of the inputs what do i do? Can I use my blu-ray player to connect it ?

A there should be component plugs in the tv the wii dose not have hdmi capability ..... they may not be red white and yellow cause its a newer one so look in the manuel but yah u could use a bluerey to plug it in but both wii bluerey and tv would have to be on

Is this a fault with the tv? No-one is pressing any button at the tv it just randomly switches its self on for a second and then switches itself of again. I hear a click as it switches on and off Any explanations

A It's hard to say without knowing the actual model numbers, as for the plasmas there's the PN51D450 (720p), PN51D530 (1080p), PN51D550 (1080p with 3D capability), PN51D6500 (1080p, 3D capable, and is an internet TV) and so on. However, I will say that plasmas will give you a higher quality TV for the price - because LED TVs are still a new technology, they're priced higher than comparable plasmas, with very little - if any - benefit whatsoever to justify the jump in price. If you do decide to go plasma, I would also recommend checking out Panasonic's line as - they're currently the top plasma producer, with similar prices to equivalent Samsung models. Some models to check out would be: TCP50X3 (720p), TCP50S30 (1080p with 3D capability), TCP50ST30 (1080p, 3D capable, and is an internet TV), and TCP50GT30 (Similar to the ST30, but has a slightly better picture, and is THX certified). A i would get the plasma due to plasma tv's do NOT have motion blur when playing fast action based games unlike some led/lcd tv's but how far back will you be when playing on your 50in plasma

A The 50-inch Sony would be a better choice for the room size unless you will be setting 15 feet or less from the screen. If I were to get a direct view television, I would get the Sony HD TV set that is 42 inches if not too expensive for you. This TV has the best picture, and that's the point, right? A well for one for the best results you should of gotten a sony tv cause they always rock and they are even better with a vaio but what im thinking is that your tv is not set to recognize pcs yet so if u search round the settings on the tv u will eventually find something related to the pc and from there just tinker with it alittle im sry that im not much help with your tv since i usually answer to sony tv questions but i do have alternatives most tvs now come with a "S video " connector that works the same as the VGA and is what i usally do when a VGA doesnt work on a tv for me or if your vaio has an HDMI port like mine does u can do that instead for better quality picture then a "S video" or a VGA i hope this helps

I bought both and I would much rather listen to the surround sound speakers then the tv speakers. I have an HDMI cable but I can't seem to figure out how to make the audio go to the surround sound speakers.

A The HDMI connection is only for sending material to the TV. Unless there is also an audio output, you're out of luck. I had to open up the back of my TV and connect wires to the speakers to get an audio output.

A that because you are plugging the a/v cables (red yellow white)into the componet input( red, green, blue,red, white) it would be much easier to get a hdmi cable. get the hd you bought the tv for and easy hook up 1 plug on both sides.

A All these idiots that say plasma burns out and suck still believe in the Easter bunny, Just so you know it was a panasonic 3D plasma that won best TV of 2010 and best picture at CES so don't listen to the first 2 idiots. Personally I would go with the LG one, it's also full HD but has very good reviews and it's bigger than the Samsung. If you can find the Panasonic VT20 or VT25 3D plasma's, those are the best TV's for 3d and high def picture, if not the LG would be my second choice. I hate the LED or LCD people who know nothing about todays plasma's, they don't even know that a LED is the same as a LCD with same picture, The only way for a LED to have those higher contrasts and better picture are the full matrix LED's with Local dimming and a 50 inch 3D full matrix LED would still not have as good picture as plasma and cost twice as much. Go for Panasonics 3DTV or the LG 3DTV Plasma's. I own a plasma and have gotten no such burn even after 8 hours falling asleep with a TLC logo, not even retention which is the worst you would get with todays plasmas and you can wash it away with screensavors.

I just bought black ops for Ps3 and I already have a 50 inch Samsung 3d Tv for some reason it wont play it. Can someone please tell me how do i go about trying to fix it. A im using hdmi 1.4 cable and it works brilliant for me,, in 3d and NOT 3d your using 1.3 hdmi cable thats your problem , 1.4 hdmi cable is suitable for 3d games and movies, it gives a better picture compared to 1.3

I just bought a brand new CPU and was curious how i hook it to my HDTV. Its a 50" Samsung LCD HDTV. What items do i need to hook it up and how i go about connecting the two?

A First, you would need to find what kind of video inputs are on your HDTV, and what kind of Video outputs are on your Computer. HDMI is the best resolution, svideo would be the worst (Ive tried it). There is also VGA, and DVI. Once you find common input and outputs on your tv and computer, you go and buy the proper cable (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc.) Unless you already have the cable. If U are going to use ONLY the Television, plugging in the wires should work pretty easily, just power the computer, and the television, and select the correct video input on the television (HDMI, svideo, etc.)
