50 LCD HD TV

- 1080i being displayed on a 720p TV?
I'm a bit confused on this subject. My parents have a 60 inch hitachi DLP which is an LCD HDTV. It is a true 720p displaying 1280x720. While I was living at home, I had the bluray, xbox, and TV box displaying in 1080i. The picture was significantly clearer, sharper, and the textures and lines in xbox games were fuzzy in 720p. Now here is why I'm confused... I recently just moved out and bought a 50 inch panasonic plasma X3 which is also a true 720p set. I can't tell the difference between 1080i and 720p. My living room is small and I'm only sitting about 8 ft away so I can see the finer details very clearly (I bought my TV before I moved, if I knew my living room was going to be so small, I would have purchased a smaller tv). I just did some research online and discovered that 720p TV sets cannot display in 1080i. They take the 1080i signal and convert it to 720p. If this is in fact true, why is there such a big difference in picture between 1080i and 720p on the hitachi? Shouldn't the picture be the same with either source?

A Panasonic is a more reliable brand than the LG. I purchased a Panasonic 37" LCD 720P about 2 years ago for one of my bedrooms and have had no problems. They make the best Plasma TV in the market and are highly recommended by Home Theater Magazine. Hope this will help you out.

Hey guys, I need professional opinions on which TV to buy, as it is boxing day in Canada and these are both great deals. - Comparison of TV Models?
I have found 2 tv's on sale and I think they are all good tv's but I am going to keep it for a long time and don't want to regret my decision. I have a SONY tv that has been good to me, I have had it for 14 years so I am quite partial to it. I also have a Sony Blu Ray player. I am looking for a 46 inch or thereabouts. I sit about 10-12 feet away from the tv and I generally watch TLC, A and E, Sci-Fi channel, MSNBC and maybe a movie once a week with the DVD player. I might watch one sports event a week , if the Dallas Cowboys are being broadcast. Anyhow, this is what I am looking at: Panasonic Viera 50 inch Plasma TH50PZ80U 1080P 1199 on sale SONY 46 inch LCD KDL46W410046 1080P 120 hz 1299 on sale I am not sure of the W series for SONY. I know they are good , but I am more familiar with the XBR series but a comparable 46 inch XBR6 is 2099 on sale. I don't like it that much. I wanted to keep the expense less than 1k but this is the best I am going to do. Any suggestions ? Thanks !

A Both are great and hard to choose.personally I would go with Sony.

I just got Dish network and the picture is stretched wider then my TV. I tried the picture adjust on the dish network remote but it didn't work. My TV has menu control on the side, but when I go to picture the Zoom Adjust is gray. My dish network remove is universal though. I should be able to shouldn't I?

A This doesn't really answer your question but if you never ever find that remote you can always just buy a universal one.

A if you have hdmi inputs use a dvi to hdmi cable, but you will need an audio cable or search for a DVI to HDMI with audio cable.

Is there a huge difference in quality from plasma to lcd led?? also my TV must be wall mounted and i have heard 3D TV should not be wall mounted as you cant get proper 3D looking up at the screen??? A Plasma televisions still have superior picture quality, motion tracking and contrast ratios, when compared to all types of LCD (whether they are LED or fluorescent back-lit LCD TVs). The latest generation of plasma TVs will draw only marginally more power than an LCD. The ludicrous notion that plasma TVs are "power hungry" has long since been debunked as a myth. Plasma TVs are best for films. LCD TVs are best for playing video games. Personally, I wouldn't bother with 3D just yet. What you see on 3D TVs at the moment is not actually a true 3D image, but a 'layered' 2D image, which looks pretty naff, to be honest. I'd wait a while, until they improve the technology and produce TVs that can show true 3D images.

A Turn down the contrast on your TV set first....supply some LIGHT to the room next. Then turn off the 120/240Hz on your TV set last. Eyestrain is generally caused by watching TV in an UNLIT room...your eyes don't like the intense differences of a bright TV and a dark room.

- Why does my Panasonic 50" LCD TV shut itself off, shortly after I turn it on?
It does this one time, every day, after being turned on for the first time that day. It will play all day after restart, so it's not an overheating issue. No, the sleep timer is off. I also thought it might be some kind of demo mode, but I don't see anything in the menu that looks like that.

A Maybe, providing that 1. it's actually in excellent condition and 2. that it's not one of the really cheap models that Walmart or K-Mart were selling. Best Buy sold them as a Black Friday special one year too. Get the model number and run it through Google and see what the features are. Check the contrast ratio in the specs and the number of inputs. The really cheap units only had 2 and the contrast ratio was really low. Panasonic plasmas are great units both for longevity and picture quality. They are energy star rated and consume less energy than many LCD TVs. Longevity is not an issue; they usually last longer than an LCD with less darkening over time than an LCD. I'd want to know why they are getting rid of it. And if it's a wishy washy answer, I'd avoid it. They're trying to cover something up. Now if they're moving, don't have room for it, decided to go 3D or something that sounds like a feasible, reasonable excuse, you might just be scoring a deal. And plasma units are not more prone to burn in that LCD. ALL will retain an image if the screen is allowed to remain static for a long period of time. Panasonic does has a "maintenance" procedure that you can run (need the manual for instructions) that will wipe any retained image from the screen unless it's been really, really abused. Gaming is not an issue either; the sets have a gaming mode. 720p isn't an issue unless you're really into Blu-ray movies. Most broadcast TV is coming down in 720p anyhow. And the Panasonic's have such a great picture that no one will walk into your home and say "Oh, you have 720p!". They won't be able to tell. Resolution is not the whole key to a great picture. I looked and looked when we decided to buy a flat screen for our living room. We watch very few movies; the unit is used more broadcast TV 90% of the time and playing the Wii. The living room turns into sports central on the weekends because husband and sons are sports fans. I looked at the 720 and the 1080 side by side and studied them for weeks and couldn't come up with enough difference in picture quality to justify the additional cost. I'm a Panasonic demo rep and have a good deal of knowledge about the product and the technologies behind them and I bought the 720p unit and we're very happy with it. I've been a rep for 5 years and have had numerous return customers. Many bought the 42" and come back for something bigger in a few years and move the smaller one to the family room or a bedroom. Or they've finished the family room in the basement and want the larger TV for the larger space. If you watch sales you could get a new one for around $800, sometimes less.

I have a 50 inch panasonic 3d tv (model # TC-P50ST30) and find that sony and several competitors have more reasonably priced glasses, but I don't know if they are compatible with my tv. Any advice, along with a rundown of the different types of active glasses would be much appreciated.

A no you will need panasonic 3d glasses for your panasonic 3d tv, if you get another make of 3d glasses the 3d effect is not the same compared with a proper panasonic 3d glasses

A Your bulb is out. LCD and DLP projections have a bulb that needs to be replaced every 3-5 years. It probably is burned out. Call a service rep for Panasonic and get a new bulb.
