50 LCD HD TV

- 1080i being displayed on a 720p TV?
I'm a bit confused on this subject. My parents have a 60 inch hitachi DLP which is an LCD HDTV. It is a true 720p displaying 1280x720. While I was living at home, I had the bluray, xbox, and TV box displaying in 1080i. The picture was significantly clearer, sharper, and the textures and lines in xbox games were fuzzy in 720p. Now here is why I'm confused... I recently just moved out and bought a 50 inch panasonic plasma X3 which is also a true 720p set. I can't tell the difference between 1080i and 720p. My living room is small and I'm only sitting about 8 ft away so I can see the finer details very clearly (I bought my TV before I moved, if I knew my living room was going to be so small, I would have purchased a smaller tv). I just did some research online and discovered that 720p TV sets cannot display in 1080i. They take the 1080i signal and convert it to 720p. If this is in fact true, why is there such a big difference in picture between 1080i and 720p on the hitachi? Shouldn't the picture be the same with either source?

IF IT WAS PERFECT ADJUSTED THE PICTURE SOULD FADE TO BLACK... IF YOUR TV TUBES NEED TO BE ADJUSTED YOU CAN CHECK BY TAKING OUT ALL OF THE COLOR IN A PICTURE, YOU SOULD HAVE A PERFECT BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE IF THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE IT HAS A RED TINT THEN THE TUBES NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED.. - Does my 50 inch Hitachi Plasma have progressive scan?
Currently purchased a Hitachi - Ultravision 50" 1080i Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV. I have a Phillips DVD HDMI converter dvd recorder and I was wondering how I can tell if the tv supports the progressive scan mode of my dvd player? Also I was wondering if this TV is really 1080i because I have read some reviews and some people noted that it was a misprint and that it really is 1080p. How can I tell? I looked in the manual and didn't see anything regarding that. Finally, what is the best HDMI setting to put my dvd player on to correlate with the tv. Thanks-Theater Rookie! :) HDMI setting meaning 420p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. You can cycle through these diffrent settings on the dvd player menu. So what do I put my tv in 1080i or 720p when I watch HD? Is that possible?

A 1080P (P as in progressive) is the top of the line in HD. You are probably correct that your TV is 1080i (as in Interlaced). Your TV will support 720p, so yes, it will support progressive scan. Set everything to 720p. btw, the person above me was obviously nothing more than a cashier at Circuit City. Progressive scan is NOT a fancy way of saying 480p. 480 P means your television scans 480 lines a frame (60 frames per second) progressivly.Interlaced means half the lines on the screen are scanned, then the other half are scanned. This is how standard NTSC television is, and was done this way originally to conserve bandwith, or how much information could be sent to your TV without slowing everything down. 720p would be 720 lines per frame. you can watch it in either 1080i or 720p, for the average viewer you will not notice ANY difference between those two formats. It all depends on the FORMAT in which the HD video is coming in. Is it satellite, is it cable, is it a DVD player? Even then, as long as both are set to the same setting, it won't make any difference. I would go with 1080i, simply because that's the highest quality, but honestly you won't notice a lick of difference between the two settings, only 1080p would you even begin to notice it and you don't have that option. But play around with it, you might notice a difference.

My wife, I, and my son have ben debating about this ever since it was delivered yesterday morning. We have heard a story from a friend with a 70 inch plasma (mind you, this was 3 or 4 years ago) where his tube broke in just 6 MONTHS!!!! Sony told him that it was because he would leave it off then turn it on, and he should leave it on standby at all times. Is that still an issue now that today, plasma tv's work for about 10 years???????????

A Won't matter. Today's TV use push on switch which mean your micon is always in on position waiting for switch command. It is simmiliar with standby position the diferent only in stanby LED for stan by is light. If you want real diferent than you need to unplug the power cord in this way your micon won't be working as well. But it's not practice.

A Based on my ex this problem usually comes from the optical block. it can be only dust covering on of the three LCD, can be one of the dischoric mirror melt or one of the three LCD crack.because of over heated. The worst case you must replace the whole op block, which is not cheap.

A while ago I remember something like my Tv flashed and it was zoomed in a little. It didnt bother me much noticing that i can't see things like the temperature on the news or tickertapes. But the dialog options on mass effect 2 are cut off and I can't stand that. I can't play it. Someone please help me! What can I do. I have the aspect ratio as far out as it can go and can't find any setting to fix this. It is a 50 inch LCD Hitachi Ultravision tv it has nothing to do with changing aspect ratio. I have tried everything possible i can think of

A If you have a set-top box (Cable or Sat), you need to change the aspect ratio in the Box as well (sometimes called Format)

A For a 50"! Of course it's worth trying to fix! I suggest taking it into where ever you bought it and see what they say.

Hi I want to buy Toshiba HD-DVD player. Since my HDTV it is 1080i resolution & I am looking for cost less then $220. Thank you! Please don't tell me to buy the blu-ray instead! I choose HD-DVD & everyone has different taste. I also don't care of the format war either! The format war will be over in the next 9 yrs.

A HD DVD is the better choice for HD disks ... more capable player and stable/final specification. I've also read that HD DVD players are better upscaling DVD players for when you want to watch DVDs. Ignore all the brainwashed blu-ray fans! That said you really only have one choice if you want the Toshiba name on it ... the HD-A3 (and since you only have a 1080i HDTV it's all you need. However, there is another option -- the Venturer SHD7000 -- $198 at Walmart. In reality it is a rebranded HD-A3 so it's really a Toshiba. The only consideration is the "free" disk offer. As I understand it the real Toshiba qualifies for more movies, so the price difference (based on what price you can find the HD-A3 at) may be the deciding factor. Your choice. Hi I have 50''Hitachi HDTV/LCD & I am trying to set it on 720P. I do know that it is NOT 1080P because, it doesn't have 1080P logo. I check the book manual & it doesn't says that it is 720P or 1080i. Thank you.

A What is your model number? Have you checked the manufacturer's web site with your model number? It should be listed there. If not, search the web with your model number.
