A Total difference type of DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY . LCD and Plasma have their own good and bad point. ( too many answer about Plasma / LCD TV , check it by you self ) . if you like Plasma, go for Samsung 50 inc.is quality TV ( but Panasonic Plasma is much better ) If you look for LCD, Philips just so so. TV sold in USA under Philips trademarks all don by Funai Thailand factory ,use Taiwan Chi-Mei made LCD display panel. not a great products. look for Samsung 46 inc LCD in the market is very Quality + reliable.with reasonable prices compare to equally picture quality from Sony , Panasonic.Sharp .* is unfair to compare 1 and 2 .not the same display technology .may be confirm you self, LCD or Plasma or even LCD-LED , post another Q , you will get good advice. compare apple to apple .

- hdtv and ps3 question answer pleeeease?
ok i have a 42 inch philips lcd i got it in 2008 so its not new and i have hdmi cable and im sitting not to close to the tv or oo far, the graphics are ok but there not amazing like everyone says, it didnt even come close to making my jaws drop, but there ok, i have uncharted 1 2 and killzone and gow3 there good graphics but just not amazing, now if i get a 50 or 60 inch plasam ( pioneer or panasonic ) will i see a big difference in graphical improvement or will it be the same, if so how much of a difference will i see. will a bigger tv size make the graphics stand out more??? and no its not that its laggy or blurry or rough edges but it seems not as good as ive been hearing? ive asked a friend if mw2 looked good on his plasma he he was like HELL YEAH!!!!, but wen i look at mine i cant say that lol i want my ps3 games to look the best they can, oh and my lcd is 1080p also, i have sum bluray movies and there not wat i expected either,

I have a Philips 50PL9220D/37....a 50 inch DLP HDTV..PIP? So on the website it says that you can use the PIP(picture-in-picture) button to see two screens at the same time, but on my remote I DO NOT have a PIP button. Does the button say something besides PIP? Also I do not see anything about PIP on my tv's menu anywhere. Please help me!

A You are in a whole world of hurt..... You're right, there are no PIP buttons on your remote, nor is there a setting for PIP in the menu either.... And the website claims it has PIP.... But I think that's a mistake in printing, not in manufacturing.... Call this number, they may be smart enough to know for sure.... 1-800-531-0039.

- I recently got a 50 inch lcd philips i am trying to find out how to connect a xBOX 360.?
it has two seperate outlets on regular t.v and other outlets for HDTV. or now of a site where i can find a insruction manual.

A Im guessing you have the white 360. On the component cable, there are vga cables. Colors are... Red, white, green, blue, red, yellow. The red and white cords that are on the same piece that Y's of are your audio plugs. Plug them in next to an HD plug in. Now, on the other side of the Y split is 3 other cables. red, blue, green, plug each one of these into the tv, green into green. blah blah, the audio (red and white on other strand) should plug in right next to it. Now, where the audio/video cord plugs into the 360, there is a switch on there, swith it from "standard" to "HDTV". Now turn on the power for the console. Just select the right input on your tv once its on and you can play games in HD. When you start up the console and you can see the picture, it may not look that much better. Now, on the DASHBOARD go to settings and go to video. Try stepping up each one at a time. 480p is standard. 720i is lowest high def, 720p is middle high def. (most 360 games only go up to 720p, check the back of the game and see what the highest output is) 1080i is getting to great high def, 1080p is amazing high def. Most games only go up to 720p for 360. Also, check the book on the tv itself to see what display settings it can go up to! hope this helps.

A I sold my hitachi 1 year old projection for like 550. And it was an HDTV. a SD tv would probley be 200 or less.

- My 50 inch Philips plasma tv makes a humming sound while watching cable.?
Some channels hum louder than other channels. When I unplug the cable (Comcast) the humming stops. Comcast came to observe and determined the hum was not caused by their cable converter box.

A This is why, besides the bill going up and up AND UP, I cancelled my cable. Out of 100+ channels, I would only get maybe 10 channels to be in stereo. By the time the tv signals go from where they origionate, to the cable recievers, to their generating signal transmitter, thru miles of wires, to your neighborhood, to your building, and finally coming out of your tv set, you'd be luck you can watch or hear anything. I bought converter boxes and there is nothing close to the quality I get in picture clarity as well as in true stereo sound for ever analog or digital signal. Cable stinks. Cancell it.

It looks like samsung and sony are the best so far, any preference or any company better than the other. I'm looking at the 50 inch models at 240 hz. I bought a Philips about 4 years ago and will never buy another low end tv.

- Plasma TV not turning on?
I have a 50 inch approx. Philips plasma screen TV model "FTR 9965 Flat TV". It is quite old and it cost a true fortune at the time. Recently, when we turned it on, the backlight in the screen was going all wonky for a few seconds before coming right. But now when we turn it on, we get the red power LED flashing repeatedly with a black screen. I managed to get it to go again by turning it off at the wall for 30 mins or so, but when i turned it on, the backlight was going all funky and dimming and lighting again for a few minutes. It is now stable but this has happened before. What would be causing this problem, it is extremely annoying and i hope i dont have to replace the whole TV. Thanks in advance!

- TV Turns on The Middle Of the Night?
My husband and I recently bought a 50 inch Philips LCD Flat Screen TV and during the night if i walk into the living room the tv will be on, and then it will randomly shut off when I leave the room. It really creeps me out. It does not happen every night and the tv is not set on any type of timer (we've checked)... What the heck is going on?

A I've seen this several times when I worked at a tv repair shop. There's a connection that needs to be re-soldered. Sometimes very small vibrations, such as someone walking near the tv, can cause the pieces of the connection to touch and cause the tv to turn on/off. Take it back and replace it with a new tv if it is still covered by the store's return policy. If not, take it in to a repair shop and have them look at it. It the past with analog tv's it used to be a $30 fix, and that is what we charged with labor and everything.
