- 1080i being displayed on a 720p TV?
I'm a bit confused on this subject. My parents have a 60 inch hitachi DLP which is an LCD HDTV. It is a true 720p displaying 1280x720. While I was living at home, I had the bluray, xbox, and TV box displaying in 1080i. The picture was significantly clearer, sharper, and the textures and lines in xbox games were fuzzy in 720p. Now here is why I'm confused... I recently just moved out and bought a 50 inch panasonic plasma X3 which is also a true 720p set. I can't tell the difference between 1080i and 720p. My living room is small and I'm only sitting about 8 ft away so I can see the finer details very clearly (I bought my TV before I moved, if I knew my living room was going to be so small, I would have purchased a smaller tv). I just did some research online and discovered that 720p TV sets cannot display in 1080i. They take the 1080i signal and convert it to 720p. If this is in fact true, why is there such a big difference in picture between 1080i and 720p on the hitachi? Shouldn't the picture be the same with either source?

There are two types of LED panels: conventional (using discrete LEDs) and surface-mounted device (SMD) panels. Most outdoor screens and some indoor screens are built around discrete LEDs, also known as individually mounted LEDs. A cluster of red, green, and blue diodes is driven together to form a full-color pixel, usually square in shape. These pixels are spaced evenly apart and are measured from center to center for absolute pixel resolution. The largest LED display in the world is over 1500 ft (457.2 m) long and is located in Las Vegas, Nevada covering the Fremont Street Experience. The largest LED television in the world is the Center Hung Video Display at Cowboys Stadium, which is 160 × 72 ft (49 × 22 m), 11520 square feet (1070 m2). Most indoor screens on the market are built using SMD technology—a trend that is now extending to the outdoor market. A SMD pixel consists of red, green, and blue diodes mounted in a single package, which is then mounted on the driver PC board. The individual diodes are smaller than a pinhead and are set very close together. The difference is that the maximum viewing distance is reduced by 25% from the discrete diode screen with the same resolution.

Toshiba 1080P 120 HZ 46" HDTV $550 http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-46G310U-46-Inch-1080p-Black/dp/B004MFDL14/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top Panasonic 42" 1080P 120HZ HDTV $500 http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/panasonic-panasonic-42-1080p-120hz-lcd-hdtv-tcl42u30-tcl42u30/10185318.aspx?path=7bd212989176c59fbc47d9893fae6b43en02 the panasonic is 4" smaller, $50 cheaper and they both have similar reviews. Can anyone give me an opinion on the brands? both are LCD screens. Thanks!

- Comparison of TV Models?
I have found 2 tv's on sale and I think they are all good tv's but I am going to keep it for a long time and don't want to regret my decision. I have a SONY tv that has been good to me, I have had it for 14 years so I am quite partial to it. I also have a Sony Blu Ray player. I am looking for a 46 inch or thereabouts. I sit about 10-12 feet away from the tv and I generally watch TLC, A and E, Sci-Fi channel, MSNBC and maybe a movie once a week with the DVD player. I might watch one sports event a week , if the Dallas Cowboys are being broadcast. Anyhow, this is what I am looking at: Panasonic Viera 50 inch Plasma TH50PZ80U 1080P 1199 on sale SONY 46 inch LCD KDL46W410046 1080P 120 hz 1299 on sale I am not sure of the W series for SONY. I know they are good , but I am more familiar with the XBR series but a comparable 46 inch XBR6 is 2099 on sale. I don't like it that much. I wanted to keep the expense less than 1k but this is the best I am going to do. Any suggestions ? Thanks !
A Both are great and hard to choose.personally I would go with Sony.

- samsung 50 inch full HD plasma tv almost invisible lines, plus mirroring?
I have a samsung 50 inch full hd plasma tv for over a year now and I love it, picture quality is great, great for gaming.. but ever since I bought it I noticed there were two almost invisible horizontal parallel lines above the middle of the screen, you can only see them if you concentrate on them and look closely and if the background is of a light or bright color.. theres another problem.. when theres a dark object on a light background.. like black letters on a white background.. you can see.. also just barely though... that the letters or dark object is being mirrored horizontaly on boths sides till the end of the screen.. now I went back to the store when I bought it and there the same model tvs had the same issues so I dont think anything is broken... and it didnt get worse after a year.. but my question is.. what are the lines and the mirroring there? is it normal? and can it get worse over the years? thanks
A well if you did buy the same tv and it to had the same problems then it might be best that you get in touch with the people that made your TV set and you could try and try and ask for A technician and you could try and explain your problem to the tech person and see if they can help you you with your problem that your having with your TV set

- Is the TV I bought good for gaming and sports?
today i went to walmart and bought a sanyo 50 inch plasma tv 720p Is a plasma and 720p good for my ps3 watching basketball, baseball and Blue ray movies? Should I return this and get a samsung 46 inch 1080p LCD or stay with what I have? I bought this for 780 while the samsung is 990 I wanted the sony 52inch 1080p LCD but it was sold out($1,200), should I wait for that too or no? I play my ps3 more than watching movies. so what should I do?
A Well the PS3 can have a higher resolution at 1080p. So if you bought a 50 inch with a 720p it will still look extremely good but not the best quality that a television with 1080p can give you especially for watching Blu-Ray movies on your PS3. But if you are just watching televisions such as sports and don't use your Blu-Ray than 720p resolution should be adequate. If you have Blu-Ray and plan on watching movie, I would return your television and get the samsung at 1080p. The Sony seems likely the best best if you have room for a 52 inch television and if you can wait.

- my parents bought a 50 inch plasma samsung tv and i want to know games on ps3 that are pal 1080p will it work ?
on the tv like call of duty 5 on ps3 if i play it on the plasma tv will it be better than playing on a 1080p lcd tv or a 50 inch plasma tv
A In the past plasma was clearly better than LCD as the latter had long persistence times, poor viewing angle and very low contrast ratios. In recent years this has narrowed considerably to the point where plasma is still a bit better but LCD is better value for money. Whether or not your particular plasma will support 1080p depends on which model it is, if they just bought it then it's almost guaranteed that it will. Wikipedia maintains an up-to-date page on PS3 titles that support 1080p: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_full_HD_1080P_PS3_games Keep in mind though that 1080p is technically tricky to achieve at 60fps so many games render at a lower res and upscale to 1080p. Best to do your homework/research on any specific titles you intend to buy.

- 50 inch 720p plasma or 42 inch 1080p lcd?
Hi, I have a 32 inch 720p poloroid tv. I really like the color and that there is no glare, but there is one problem its a little small. I use the tv with my xbox 360. walmart has the deal for a samsung 50 inch 720p plasma or a 42 inch 1080p lcd. what one should i get? I sit about 10 feet away from the TV. Is the samsung going to look good? When I went to the store i looked at the plasma's and they looked very dark. Is this just in the settings or are these the way plasmas are. These are the BF deals at walmart What one would you choose Thanks in advance!
A The plasma will look great at your home. They have more reflection from the screen so they look best in dark sales showrooms. It should not look dark when you see it at home. Consumer Reports (free at the library) tells you how to calibrate the settings yourself. Read more at www.HDGURU.com and www.AVSFORUM.com

FAQ - Questions - 50 Hd Lcd Tv Reviews
- Which is sharper? a PC w/HD video card out to a LCD 50" TV w/HD in? or PC w/VGA out to a 50" LCD TV w/VGA in?
Will adding n HD Video card cost less? Why do 50" LCD TV's with PC in cost more? Technically, which is a higher resolution, HD or VGA?
A If you're planning to watch a lot of videos, go with the HD video card. The real difference between the card and VGA is what it is intended for. VGA is good for general computer use. Unless your video card can support 1080 lines of resolution with a good enough refresh rate, your video may look choppy. With a HD card, it is designed with HD video in mind. The video will be more fluid and probably sharper. What you could do first is simply hook up your computer to the TV via VGA just to see if it is good enough for you.

- Will adding a "DVI out" video card to my computer make the picture on my 50' HD LCD TV sharper?
I have my computer hooked up to my TV so I can watch MPG's and other computer formatted files on the big screen. At present, I have a N-vidia 128 MB AGP8x video card with VGA and S-video out. The computer is hooked to TV using S-video cable. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can sit on the couch and use the computer. When watching Downloaded movies and such on the big screen, everything is fine. But....when I try to check e mail, etc., the picture is a little blurry and Text is difficult to read. Will replacing my computer's video card to one with 128 MB AGP "DVI out" and DVI cord(my TV has "DVI in") make the TV picture as sharp as that on my 17" computer monitor? More specific, will the text and e mails suddenly appear on the 50" big screen just as sharp as they do on my traditional 17" flat screen computer monitor? BTW....my motherboard does not have PCI express slot and does not appear to be able to handle a 256 MB AGP video card. My TV is capable of 1080 dpi HD.
A Component video will give you the best picture, but DVI is better than S-Video in terms of quality.

- How do i Unmount a 50 inch samsung hdtv?
Im 13 and i want to unmount my tv so i could put a hdmi into my xbox--- do i need a screwdriver ? do i need my dads help?? or can i simply just unmmount the tv by it self....... also is my tv probaly 1080p my dad got it in 2006 or 2007.. its hdtv50 inch... and i dont know the name of the tv because i cant find the name! please answer
A I am 22 and I have 50" Samsung too and I was just able to lift that thing and put in on the wall myself, so unless you are buff I do not recommend un-mounting anything by yourself. Is your TV really that close to the wall that you can not shove a HDMI cable in there? And if it is you probably need low profile plug, you know "L" shaped. Why don't you use the one that is on the side of the TV meanwhile, My TV has HDMI there. Overall wait for your dad or an adult (preferably with some technical knowledge :) to help you. And yes, your TV is most likely 1080p.

- I have a panasonic Plasma 50 inch HDTV but I lost the remote and I need to adjust the picture size.?
I just got Dish network and the picture is stretched wider then my TV. I tried the picture adjust on the dish network remote but it didn't work. My TV has menu control on the side, but when I go to picture the Zoom Adjust is gray. My dish network remove is universal though. I should be able to shouldn't I?
A This doesn't really answer your question but if you never ever find that remote you can always just buy a universal one.

A Does your TV have a coaxial antenna input on the back? If your TV doesn't have this sort of connection, it means your HDTV was the type known as HD ready, meaning it can display an hd picture if you have a cable or satellite box, but it doesn't have the tuner for over the air HDTV. In that case, anther option would be to buy an HD tuner for it. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SIR-T451-Definition-Terrestrial-Tuner/dp/B00064L1AI
