- I just bought a new Samsung Plasma, 50 inch TV, 720p. The picure is not so sharp - what to do?
I don't have the HD box yet (getting that from Direct TV) - is that the problem or is it the 720p? It is a PN50c450 I have done some of the basic tweaking of the settings, but have not yet connected it to HD ... but wondering if I should have bought a 1080p and/or LCD instead.
A It looks like crap because you are feeding it standard def. This has not changed/improved since it became a standard in 1948. You will be shocked at how good that display will look when you feed it true HD. Try this: go to www.antennaweb.org and type in your address. It will show you a map of the TV towers and what HD channels you can get. If you are lucky enough to be able to use an indoor antenna, go spend $25 for the Phillips Silver Sensor Classic indoor antenna, hook it up and let the TV scan for channels. Otherwise wait and get the HD box. You should have an HDMI cable in advance of receiving your HD box. I like the cables from www.bluejeanscables.com, but the MediaBridge cables from Amazon are said to be good and cheap cables can be bought from www.monoprice.com And dont let people tell you 720 is not good enough. Many people (including myself) cannot see the difference between two TV's where one is 720 and the other is 1080. In fact - I could probably fool you into saying the 720 image looks better by simply making it brighter. I strongly recommend the HD DVR. It will change the way you watch TV.

I would recommend you go with a Panasonic tv if you are looking for a Plasma. Hope this will help you out.

I really dont get if something will happen if i zoom on a widescreen movie so it fills my screen. Can i do that?
A Widescreen 16:9 Standard 4:3 I always recommend watching widescreen if the movie is widescreen. Yes, you can zoom in (some tv models let you) but then you miss part of the image. Movies are shot carefully, like paintings are made. You wouldn't cut off part of a painting just so it would fit a certain picture frame, you'd be missing part of the image, part of the statement. If a movie was shot at a different framing ratio, then the director / cinematographer / art director had a reason for it. Maybe, if your tv was only 20" it might be worth zooming in just so you can see smaller details, but with a 50" you should just watch it as it was intended...

A It's hard to say without knowing the actual model numbers, as for the plasmas there's the PN51D450 (720p), PN51D530 (1080p), PN51D550 (1080p with 3D capability), PN51D6500 (1080p, 3D capable, and is an internet TV) and so on. However, I will say that plasmas will give you a higher quality TV for the price - because LED TVs are still a new technology, they're priced higher than comparable plasmas, with very little - if any - benefit whatsoever to justify the jump in price. If you do decide to go plasma, I would also recommend checking out Panasonic's line as - they're currently the top plasma producer, with similar prices to equivalent Samsung models. Some models to check out would be: TCP50X3 (720p), TCP50S30 (1080p with 3D capability), TCP50ST30 (1080p, 3D capable, and is an internet TV), and TCP50GT30 (Similar to the ST30, but has a slightly better picture, and is THX certified). In addition to features, as these models become more expensive, the picture quality also improves, giving a wider color spectrum and overall clearer picture.

The same thing happened to my old Mitsubishi rear projection tv, they wanted $500 to fix it. I gave it away and purchased a Panasonic 50" Plasma tv. Go online to "Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of Plasma and LCD tvs. You will notice that Panasonic has a tv recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end. While Sony, Samsung and Toshiba does not (April issue). Other brands like LG, Sharp, Sanyo and Vizio did not even get mentioned. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems are from LCD tvs and 95% of those are from off brands. Hope this will help you out

A If it is the bulb...It's pretty simple, all you have to do is take off a little tiny square panel board that is secured with like 4 phillip's screws...depending on the type of TV you have. Then you just grab that bulb and pull it out and put in the new one...The bulb itself will run around $80.00-$250.00 or so, depending on the size and brand of your tv. Just like the question says, how hard is it to fix a Mitsubishi 50 inch projection tv that has sound but no picture? What would it need? Just a bulb? Would I have to have a specialist to repair it? Thanks!
A If it is the bulb...It's pretty simple, all you have to do is take off a little tiny square panel board that is secured with like 4 phillip's screws...depending on the type of TV you have. Then you just grab that bulb and pull it out and put in the new one...The bulb itself will run around $80.00-$250.00 or so, depending on the size and brand of your tv. So if you bought a 50 inch with a 720p it will still look extremely good but not the best quality that a television with 1080p can give you especially for watching Blu-Ray movies on your PS3. But if you are just watching televisions such as sports and don't use your Blu-Ray than 720p resolution should be adequate. If you have Blu-Ray and plan on watching movie, I would return your television and get the samsung at 1080p. The Sony seems likely the best best if you have room for a 52 inch television and if you can wait.

At the moment I am using the "standard" settings (everything is set on 50) Both game consoles are set to 720P as to be honest I didn't see any immediate difference between 720P and 1080P.

My choices are a plasma 50 inch samsung 720p or 42 inch lcd poloroid 1080p. the difference in price is around $200. am i going to be happy with a 8 inch difference for 1080p or is it worth it to get the 50 inch that's only 720p? I mostly would use this tv for video gaming and i sit about 6.5 feet away. i could get as far back as 17 feet. I really would like the 50 inch. because paying 600$ just for a 10 inch difference doesn't seem worth it
